What is a Mole?

Usually black or brown in colour, a mole is a cluster of skin cells. Maybe you have more than one mole on your face and body and they can appear on a human body. Varying in size and shape, moles can be flat or raised. No matter what the size, shape and colour of a mole may be, the best tool plays a very crucial role when it comes to removing the mole.

Even though moles can appear on any part of your body or in groups, many people out there have a misconception that leaving the moles untreated in a timely manner may result in a skin problem.

What is the Mole Removal Treatment?

The fact cannot be held for denial that most moles cause no harm. However, in rare cases, they are likely to develop into cancer if left untreated. Thus, it calls for surgical mole removal treatment.

The removal of mole(s) does not take very long. It can even be carried out by surgical excision or surgical shave. Furthermore, moles can be also be removed by laser treatment or freezing method. Keep in mind that laser treatment is not considered when it comes to removing a deep mole. This is because the laser beams don’t have the ability to enter that deep.

How is the Treatment Carried Out?

A professional dermatologist with relevant experience can easily diagnose moles. In fact, the treatment for mole removal is pain-free. There are two methods for removing moles:

  1. Surgical Excision
  2. Surgical Shave

Surgical Excision

In this method of mole removal, the moles are treated using an anesthetic before they are removed with the help of surgical scissors. Moreover, the cells from beneath the skin’s top layer are cut out. Then, the dermatologist stitches the skin to close it. These stitches disappear with passing time.

Surgical Shave

If the moles are superficial, they’re shaved down using a scalpel. At times, it can irritate one’s skin. After the area gets numbed, the doctor uses a small blade so that the mole can be cut down. Stitches are not required in this method.

Moles that cannot develop into cancer and have not grown into the deepest layers of the skin can be stopped by applying liquid nitrogen. Well, it may result in the occurrence of a blister (a small one) on the skin.

As far as laser treatment is concerned, it can be used to take care of multiple moles at a time. However, they cannot be used for treating those moles that are deep into one’s skin. This treatment makes use of severe bursts of light radiation. This is done for the purpose of breaking down melanin pigment clot in the skin. Hence, you can get off the moles.

Who is the Right Candidate for the Mole Removal Treatment?

Is the mole making you feel the unwanted pain? Or, does it bleed, cause burning or itching? Make sure you get in touch with your dermatologist right away. And if there is growth in moles after they have been removed, contacting a local doctor will be the right thing to do. It is important for you to know that if they (moles) develop after you have turned 30, they can easily become cancerous. Thus, getting in touch with your doctor is the best bet.

Who is Not the Right Candidate for the Mole Removal Treatment?

Moles are curable and they usually do not cause harm. If you want, you don’t need to opt for medical assistance for such moles.

What are the Complications (or Side Effects)?

Here are some side effects of mole removal:

  • Even though you don’t need to get hospitalized for getting rid of your mole(s), it’s important for you to know that its efficiency is not 100%. You never know when those moles might grow again and in a group.

  • Looking to prevent the growth of moles again? It’s advisable that you contact your dermatologist for the same treatment. Thus, the process can take time.

  • Getting a skin infection is one of the most common side effects of getting moles eliminated if the process is done surgically.

  • There can be laser beam marks that can be permanent in some cases. If the mole is quite large, the scar will be of the same size.

It is important for you to know that moles don’t cause any harm and they are a little extra skin that grows abnormally. If you feel extremely conscious about them or that they make you lose confidence, consulting your dermatologist pertaining to the mole removal treatment is the best.
